The ‘hot’ writer of the past few years. He wrote “The Kite Runner” about life and death in Afghanistan. Loved and hated equally. I personally can wait to get a copy of the novel and read it. The movie is being shot as we speak and should come out at the end of the year.

Hey,
I was going to post a message on Hosseini when I saw this old post. Did you get around to reading it Penitent? I just finished his other novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and absolutely adored it. I liked The Kite Runner better though.
cheers

I've read both Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns in the past month I enjoyed them both.
Kite Runner had been recommended to me by a couple of my friends and I saw that the Amazon reviews were overwhelmingly favourable so I thought it was worth a try. They are both "nice" books, but to be honest, I don't think they live up to the hype...
I have the film of Kite Runner sat on my coffee table...should be interesting to see how it compares to the book.

I could have written this review before I'd seen the film:
Not as good as the book.

Most of the time they are indeed. That's why I didn't bother with this movie
. So far the only films that cut it with respect to the books would be the first two or three harry potter movies and I have to say I quite enjoyed The Lord of the Rings. That was a great adaption. Must say though that The Green Mile and the Shawshank Redemption are very good as well.
